The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Mampong, Thomas Appiah Kubi has urged Ghanaians to be committed to environmental activities to restore the country’s lost forest. He has therefore called on Ghanaians to adopt environmentally friendly attitudes and practices that would help to enhance the restoration of the depleted forest of the country. “Let’s be more committed to issues and activities that would help restore the country’s environment”, he stressed. Hon. Thomas Appiah Kubi made this call through Mr. Francis Korsah, an administrative officer at the assembly on Friday 9th June 2023 when the Mampong Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region and the Forestry Commission with support from the Mampong Traditional Council joined other districts in the country to celebrate the 2023 Green Ghana Day with planting of a number of tree seedlings to restore forest reserves, water bodies and also beautify the municipality.

As part of the celebration thousands of free seedlings were made available at the forecourt of the Mampong Municipal Assembly and the premises of the Forestry Commission for institutions and members of the general public with interest and passion for conservation of the environment to pick and plant to protect the environment and also help enable Ghana to meet this year’s target of planting 10 million trees. On his part, Mr. Seth Owusu Abrokwah, District Manager, Forestry Commission advised that serious attention be placed on the planting, nurturing and protection of the trees as well as on any other efforts that can stimulate and enhance the growth and survival of the trees and protect the environment. “Trees are our source of live, let’s all plant trees to sustain our environment”, he urged.

 

Some key personalities took turns to plant trees at the Assembly premises to encourage other people in the municipality to do same to demonstrate the seriousness the assembly attaches to the Green Ghana Project, which among others is geared towards the restoration of the country’s lost green cover.  The personalities include the District Manager, Forestry Commission, Seth Owusu Abrokwah, the Presiding Member (PM) for Mampong Municipal Assembly, Godwin Anto, Sector Commander, Ghana Immigration Service, Chief Superintendent Daniel Offei and Divisional Police Commander, ACP David.
