The Ghana Immigration Service held an inauguration ceremony for its newly built office in Ashanti Mampong, marking a significant milestone in the service’s efforts to enhance its operations and better serve the Ghanaian public. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including the Member of parliament for Mampong consistency Hon. Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong, Minister of Defense Hon. Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Regional Minister Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, who emphasized the importance of making the GIS more thriving, inclusive, and effective for the country.

The GIS plays a crucial role in implementing the country’s immigration policies, as outlined in the Immigration Act, 2000 (Act 573) and the Immigration Service Act, 2016 (Act 908). The service is headed by the Comptroller-General, who advises the Minister of the Interior on immigration-related matters.

The new office is expected to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the GIS’s operations, enabling the service to better serve the public and support Ghana’s economic development. The Regional Minister’s attendance at the inauguration ceremony underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing the country’s immigration system.

Speaking at the event, the Comptroller-General of Ghana Immigration Service Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu highlighted the service’s strategic objectives, including managing migration in the national interest, defending against irregular migration, and contributing to national security. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration with other security agencies and states to improve operations.

It is my great pleasure to stand before you and address the handover of this newly built immigration office. This magnificent structure represents a tangible commitment to enhancing the capabilities of our immigration service. It is a testament to the power of collaboration and the importance of investing in the well-being and effectiveness of our law enforcement agencies. This new immigration office will enable our officers to better serve our community, leveraging modern infrastructure and cutting-edge technology to deliver exceptional services. It will also provide a conducive work environment for our officers, fostering collaboration, creativity, and productivity.

Ashanti Regional Minister Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene

The Regional Minister emphasized the importance of making the GIS more thriving, inclusive, and effective for the country. He commended Egya Wiase for the philanthropic works he does for Mampong and the nation Ghana and he also called on business owners to partner with government in order to provide the needed services to the various institutions and equally for the various communities. He also stated that as a regional minister, he is looking forward to work on additional works that needs to be done in the constituency and also across the Region would be done with the support of Egya Wiase.

Hon. Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak – Minister of Defense

The Minister of Defense, Hon. Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, emphasized the critical role Ghana Immigration plays in the security architecture of the country. He called on GIS officers to perform their duties professionally and protect Ghana’s territorial borders. However, the Honorable Minister acknowledged Egya Wiase’s contribution to the construction of the new office building as a testament to his commitment to supporting Ghana’s immigration services. He also made mention of speaking to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to also facilitate Ghanaian passport application processing here in the Mampong Municipal to make it easier for citizens to obtain travel documents.
