The Mampong Municipal Assembly has unanimously confirmed Yakubu Yussif as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). The confirmation was made on July 24, 2025, during a Special Assembly Meeting, where all 47 assembly members present voted in favor of Yussif’s nomination by President John Mahama.

Yakubu Yussif, a 34-year-old marketer and NDC parliamentary candidate for the Mampong constituency in the 2024 elections, was nominated following internal tensions within the local party. His confirmation ends months of agitation by a section of NDC supporters who had earlier protested at the party’s office over rumors that another candidate, Esther Dwomoh, had been selected. The group has since apologized to President Mahama and other stakeholders.

Yussif’s Priorities
In his acceptance speech, Yussif expressed gratitude to President Mahama and the assembly members for their confidence in his leadership. He pledged to prioritize key development areas, including¹ ²:
- Sanitation: Improving waste management and sanitation services in the municipality
- Education: Enhancing educational infrastructure and services
- Healthcare: Improving healthcare delivery and access to medical facilities
- Infrastructure: Developing and maintaining roads and other critical infrastructure

Support and Expectations
The traditional authority, represented by Nana Akwasidai Kodua, welcomed Yussif as the new MCE but cautioned that his performance would be closely monitored. The assembly members pledged their support, emphasizing that it would be tied to accountability and delivery of promises.

Next Steps
Yakubu Yussif now awaits formal swearing-in by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Dr. Frank Amoakohene. With his confirmation, Yussif is expected to drive development in the Mampong municipality, working closely with the assembly members, traditional authorities, and other stakeholders.
