On Tuesday 21st October 2025, the Mampong Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Yakubu Issifu together with the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Mohammed Mumuni formally inaugurated the Road Safety Committee. A pivotal event that underscores the municipality’s commitment to addressing pressing road safety concerns and fostering a culture of responsible driving practices within the community. This milestone ceremony marks a significant stride towards enhancing road safety measures, promoting awareness and creating a safer environment for all road users including pedestrians, cyclists and motorists in the Mampong municipality. The inauguration responds to the urgent appeal from residents demonstrating the assembly’s dedication to prioritizing road safety and improving the overall well-being of its citizens.

An officer from the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) emphasized the framework for Road Safety Management in Ghana specifically on the  importance of educating the public on responsible road usage highlighting key areas such as encouraging pedestrians to use designated crosswalks, avoid jamming roads and be mindful of traffic signals, promoting adherence to speed limits, avoiding reckless driving and minimizing distractions while driving, emphasizing the need to protect pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists who are disproportionately affected by road accidents and educating the public on road safety rules, regulations, and best practices to reduce accidents and promote a culture of safety.

He stressed that collective efforts are needed to promote a safety-first mindset among road users encouraging everyone to play a role in reducing accidents and creating a safer road environment in the Mampong municipality.

The officer in his concluding remarks elaborated on the critical interventions being implemented in various sectors to enhance road safety in Ghana. He highlighted the collaborative efforts between key agencies including; (Education) The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) is spearheading initiatives to educate the public on road safety, promoting awareness and best practices among road users, (Engineering) The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) and the Department of Urban Roads (DUR) are working to improve road infrastructure ensuring that roads are designed and maintained to minimize accident risks. The Department of Feeder Roads (DFR) is also involved in developing and maintaining feeder roads to enhance rural connectivity, (Enforcement) The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service are working together to enforce traffic laws and regulations, ensuring that drivers and vehicles meet safety standards and (Emergency Response) The National Ambulance Service (NAS), Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS)  and Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) are equipped to respond to emergencies providing critical care and support in the event of accidents or disasters.

During his inaugural speech, the Mampong Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) highlighted the assembly’s commitment to promoting road safety noting that the Mampong Municipal Assembly has taken proactive steps in collaboration with the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) to establish a District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) in the municipality. This initiative aligns with the NRSA’s nationwide efforts to establish DRSCs across Ghana aimed at enhancing road safety awareness and addressing localized road safety concerns.

He further disclosed that the assembly has invested in improving road infrastructure including the installation of traffic lights in the municipal capital, Asante Mampong to regulate traffic flow and reduce accident risks. These measures demonstrate the assembly’s dedication to creating a safer and more conducive environment for road users reflecting its commitment to prioritizing road safety and improving the quality of life for residents.

In attendance were some heads from esteemed institutions such as the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Education Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Revenue Authority, Information Services Department, Health Directorate, Roads Department and others.
