The Mampong Municipal Assembly, Mampong in the Ashanti Region has endorsed a comprehensive development strategy aimed at catalyzing and expediting socio-economic progress within the municipality for the forthcoming year.

The sanctioned plan accords paramount importance to augmenting accessibility to superior quality, cost-effective formal education with a pronounced emphasis on the pre-tertiary echelon. Moreover, it underscores significant investments in pivotal sectors including agriculture, sanitary infrastructure, developmental infrastructure and road network expansion. The plan’s efficacy is contingent upon judicious revenue mobilization and a highly motivated workforce.

Additionally, the Assembly’s proposition to develop a paradigmatic market congruent with the government’s ‘24-Hour Economy’ policy has garnered formal approval. The requisite design documentation has been submitted to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) for scrutiny and ratification exemplifying the Assembly’s unwavering dedication to actualizing this flagship development endeavor.

These came to light at the first ordinary meeting of the second session of the fifth assembly of the Mampong Municipal Assembly held on Thursday 30th October, 2025 at the Municipal Assembly Hall.

In the realm of agriculture, Hon. Issifu Yakubu apprised that the Department of Agriculture has effectively registered 230 farmer-based organizations under the auspices of the ‘Feed Ghana Project’. Furthermore, he intimated that the imminent launch of the ‘Nkokɔ Nketenkete’ poultry initiative is poised to strengthen domestic poultry production.

Emphasizing the ongoing nature of the enrolment process, Hon. Issifu Yakubu urged the honourable assembly members to facilitate the inclusion of eligible farmer groups and cooperative societies within their respective constituencies by liaising with agricultural field officers thereby ensuring their participation in this pivotal initiative.

Additionally, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Mampong, Yakubu Issifu disclosed that the Mampong Municipal Assembly would soon implement a revenue generation digitization project to help address some challenges associated with the manual revenue collection systems.

Mr. Yakubu Issifu explained that the Assembly relies heavily on its Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to deliver essential public services and some developmental projects. He however stated that the collection of IGF using the traditional methods are fraught with inefficiency, prone to leakages and lack transparency which negatively affect its revenue generation.  This he said deprive the assembly to meet some of its developmental activities.

The MCE stated that the revenue digitization drive is aimed at modernizing the collection, monitoring and management of local revenues through a robust digital platform District Local Revenue

The digitization initiative is in harmony with the Government of Ghana’s overarching digital transformation agenda which seeks to enhance efficiency, transparency and accountability in public financial management. According to the Hon. MCE, this project will enable the Assembly to effectively discharge its mandate of mobilizing adequate financial resources for sustainable development in consonance with the National Decentralization Policy Framework and the Ghana Digitalization Drive spearheaded by the Ministry of Finance as part of the RESET Agenda.

In light of this, he urged the House to provide support to the Assembly in its efforts to enhance internal revenue generation emphasizing that such backing would facilitate the Assembly’s ability to meet critical expenditure commitments that might otherwise be constrained by the stringent guidelines and conditionalities associated with central government funding. By leveraging internal revenue streams, the Assembly would possess greater flexibility to allocate resources to various functional areas thereby fostering more effective governance and development outcomes.

The meeting saw members of the assembly unanimously approving the MCE’s Sessional Address and the Executive Committee’s Report. Members also approved the Annual Action Plan, Revenue Improvement Action Plan, Fee-Fixing Resolution and Composite Budget for the year 2026 as well as the Auditor General’s Report and Public Relations and Complaints Committee (PRCC) Report.

Most of the assembly members took turns to commend the MCE for undertaking massive developmental projects in the municipality few months of his assumption into office and cited a number of long-standing developmental challenges that he has solved including the renovation of the Assembly’s administrative block which was in a dilapidated state but through his leadership has seen major facelift.

Some others pledged to continue to support the MCE in all aspects of development. They however urged the MCE not to rest on his oars to execute the developmental agenda for the overall development of the Mampong municipality.
