The Mampong Municipal Assembly has successfully commissioned three mechanized boreholes in the remote communities of Adidwan Konkomba, Atonsuagya Konkomba, and Mpeso as part of efforts to improve access to potable water and enhance the living conditions of residents within the Municipality.

The commissioning exercise, which took place on Monday, June 1, 2026, formed part of the Assembly’s commitment to expanding access to essential social services and addressing the water needs of underserved communities. The event was attended by the Municipal Chief Executive, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Heads of Departments and Units, Assembly Members, community leaders, staff of the Assembly, and residents of the beneficiary communities.

For several years, residents of these communities had struggled with limited access to clean and safe drinking water, forcing many households, particularly women and children, to travel long distances in search of water from streams, ponds, and other unsafe sources. This situation exposed community members to waterborne diseases and negatively affected their health, education, and economic activities.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremonies, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Yussifu Yakubu emphasized that access to clean water remains one of the Assembly’s top priorities in promoting public health and community development. He noted that the provision of the boreholes demonstrates the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring equitable development across the Municipality, especially in hard-to-reach communities.
According to him, the Assembly recognizes that water is an essential resource for life and development; therefore, every effort is being made to ensure that residents have access to safe and reliable water sources. He stated that the new boreholes would significantly reduce the burden on women and children who often spend several hours each day searching for water.

The Municipal Chief Executive further indicated that the project aligns with the Government’s efforts to improve access to potable water and contribute towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6, which seeks to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
The Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD) Ms Esther Abaching, also urged residents to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper maintenance. He encouraged the beneficiary communities to establish effective management committees to oversee the operation and maintenance of the boreholes to guarantee their sustainability.

Heads of Departments, led by the Works Engineer, Eng. John Gamah, were present at the ceremony and highlighted the health benefits associated with access to clean drinking water. They also advised residents to observe good sanitation and hygiene practices in order to maximize the impact of the intervention.
At Adidwan Konkomba, community members expressed profound appreciation to the Assembly for responding to a challenge that had affected the community for many years. Residents noted that the borehole would not only improve access to water but also enhance health conditions and support socio-economic activities within the area.

Similarly, residents of Atonsuagya Konkomba described the project as timely and life-changing, indicating that it would reduce the time spent fetching water and allow children to devote more time to their education. Women in the community particularly welcomed the intervention, describing it as a significant relief from the daily burden of searching for water.
At Mpeso, traditional leaders and residents commended the Assembly for extending development projects to remote communities and pledged their commitment to protecting and maintaining the facility for the benefit of future generations.

The commissioning of the three boreholes marks another important milestone in the Assembly’s efforts to improve infrastructure and enhance the quality of life of residents across the Municipality. The intervention is expected to benefit hundreds of households and contribute significantly to improved health outcomes, reduced incidence of water-related diseases, and increased productivity among community members.
The Mampong Municipal Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing inclusive development and ensuring that all communities, regardless of their location, have access to basic social amenities. The Assembly further assured residents that it would continue to implement projects and programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting sustainable development throughout the Municipality.
The commissioning ceremony concluded with expressions of gratitude from community members, who described the boreholes as a transformative intervention that would have a lasting positive impact on their lives and the future development of their communities.
