Mampong Municipal Assembly

The Mampong Municipal Assembly successfully held the First Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Fifth Assembly on Wednesday, 17th June 2026, at the Municipal Assembly Hall, bringing together key stakeholders to deliberate on policies, programmes, and development initiatives aimed at advancing the growth and prosperity of the Municipality.

The meeting was attended by the Hon. Presiding Member Hon Eric Oduro, traditional authorities, the Municipal Coordinating Director Esther Abaching, Hon. Assembly Members, Heads of Security Agencies, Heads of Departments, members of the media, staff of the Mampong Municipal Assembly, and other distinguished guests.

In his welcome address, the Presiding Member warmly welcomed Hon. Assembly Members, traditional authorities, the Municipal Chief Executive, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Heads of Security Agencies, Heads of Departments, members of the media, staff of the Assembly, and other invited guests to the First Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Fifth Assembly of the Mampong Municipal Assembly. He expressed appreciation for their attendance and participation in the important statutory meeting. In accordance with Section 28(2a) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), the Presiding Member addressed the Assembly on the policies, programmes, and development initiatives being implemented by the Assembly and presented the Executive Committee, emphasizing the Assembly’s commitment to promoting the socio-economic development of the Municipality.

The Presiding Member briefed the house on developments across key sectors of the Municipality. Security remained stable with no major breaches recorded, attributed to the effective coordination of MUSEC and strong collaboration among police units, supported by continuous patrols.

Improvements in public lighting were also noted following the completion of the first phase of solar streetlight installation, benefiting Mampong and surrounding communities such as Asaam and Kofiase, with plans for expansion and ongoing maintenance.

He highlighted on finance, the Assembly recorded 31.37% IGF performance, while efforts are underway through the Digital Revenue (DLREV) initiative to improve revenue mobilization through digitization. DACF disbursement for 2026 had not yet been received, though funds from 2025 allocations were applied according to guidelines.

In sanitation, he stressed out that the Assembly procured waste management equipment, engaged a contractor to improve cleaning services in key areas, and conducted several clean-up exercises that improved environmental conditions. A beautification project at St. Monica’s Roundabout is also ongoing and market store assessments were still ongoing, and preparations were underway for DPAT XI, with optimism for strong performance based on previous efforts.

The Presiding Member was informed of key agricultural interventions implemented by the Department of Agriculture to improve food security and livelihoods within the Municipality. He was briefed on the successful completion of the three-month “Nkoko Nketekete” poultry project, which produced and distributed 10,000 broilers and layers to 202 beneficiaries. While the broilers were raised for consumption, the layers are currently producing eggs, contributing to household income and nutrition and further informed that extension officers reached 1,531 farmers under the “Feed Ghana” programme, providing training on Good Agricultural Practices to improve productivity and resilience among farmers.

On road infrastructure is major concern in the Mampong Municipality. The Hon Presiding Member stressed out on several road-related issues that have been identified through reports from the Roads Department, residents, and personal observations. The Assembly expects to receive funds from the Central Government in 2026 for road maintenance activities, including reshaping roads, patching potholes, and grass cutting. A key challenge is the collapsed Sataso Bridge, which has significantly affected transportation. Although a temporary diversion was created, continuous rains destroyed it, making the road inaccessible. Efforts have been made to improve access, and the bridge reconstruction contract has been awarded, with excavation and initial construction works already underway.

On Social Development, the Hon. Presiding Member said the LEAP reassessment programme is currently at the data collection stage to identify and enrol eligible vulnerable beneficiaries. A Disability Fund Disbursement Durbar was held on 11th June 2026, benefiting 171 persons with disabilities through business support, medical assistance, assistive devices, educational support, and other items. The Assembly will monitor the use of the support provided.

The Business Resource Centre in partnership with the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) and the Assembly supported youth entrepreneurship by distributing 200 sheep and goats, 160 rabbits, and 80 rabbit cages, a total of 218 women-led MSMEs received training in business growth, digital marketing, Kaizen, and financial literacy and also, the Agriculture and Agribusiness for Entrepreneurship (AA2E) programme, 373 youth were trained in business start-up, fish farming, and livestock management and are awaiting start-up kits he emphasized.

On Education, St. Monica’s SHS won the Ashanti Regional 69th Independence Anniversary Debate Competition and placed second at the Southern Zonal Competition, The 2026 BECE was successfully conducted with 2,519 candidates from 68 schools, while the ongoing WASSCE has 5,589 candidates participating and the Assembly support, including examination materials and scholarship pledges for top-performing students, during the visits to examination centres. Amaniampong SHS won the National Robotics Competition and qualified for an international competition in the USA. However, visa delays prevented participation. The school is now preparing for the next competition in India and seeks stakeholder support.

Also, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Yakubu Issifu, warmly welcomed participants and expressed gratitude for the support and collaboration he has received since assuming office. He noted that despite various challenges, the Assembly has made significant progress in implementing development projects and programmes across the Municipality.

Hon. Yakubu Issifu emphasized his administration’s commitment to inclusive development and assured Assembly Members that every electoral area would benefit from ongoing government development interventions. He stated that the Assembly remains focused on improving the living standards of residents through strategic investments in infrastructure, sanitation, education, agriculture, security, and economic empowerment.

Hon. MCE emphasizes on the official cutting of sod for the construction of the 24-Hour Economy Market Project in Mampong which forms part of Government’s vision to transform local economies, create jobs, improve trading conditions, and promote economic growth under the 24-Hour Economy initiative. He urged residents, traders, transport operators, and all stakeholders within the municipality to support the initiative and cooperate with contractors to ensure the successful completion of the project.

Despite challenges, the Assembly has achieved significant progress and remains committed to mobilizing resources and implementing development projects. The Municipal Chief Executive reaffirmed his dedication to pursuing the Municipality’s development agenda through collaboration with stakeholders. He expressed confidence that continued commitment and teamwork will result in greater development and improved living standards for the people of Mampong Municipality.
