Before the matches kicked off, the Municipal Chief Executive Hon Issifu Yakubu used the gathering to showcase key development projects undertaken for Mampong Municipality.

A short presentation highlighted the newly construction of the modern market shed, school building projects and the upgraded Community Health Planning and Services compound. ISD narrated each project while images rolled on the giant screen drawing applause from residents. Citizens responded with cheers expressing appreciation for the visible impact and renewed hope for further development.

The campaign began on the evening of June 17, 2026 when Ghana faced Panama in the tournament opener at BMO Field, Toronto. The Hon. MCE explained that the World Cup viewing was more than football. It was also a platform to account to the people.

By dusk, the Difie Square had transformed into vibrant viewing centres filled with cheers, flags and dance. The Hon. MCE addressed the crowd before kickoff reminding everyone of the values of discipline, unity and respect as tradition demands. When Caleb Yirenkyi struck in the 95th minute to seal a 1-0 victory, the atmosphere erupted in pure joy with residents dancing and chanting for the Black Stars. The momentum carried into the second match on June 23, 2026 against England at Boston Stadium.

Recognizing the higher stakes, the Hon MCE and ISD expanded security collaboration with the Heads of Security Services to manage the larger turnout. Hon. Assembly Members, Heads of Departments and friends from the media joined citizens as the matches were being played. Ghana’s defensive resilience earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw leaving the team on four points and edging closer to the Round of 32. Throughout both matches, the MCE used the gatherings to reinforce messages of civic responsibility while ISD ensured accurate information on schedules and safety.

As attention now turns to the decisive clash with Croatia on June 27, the collaboration between the MCE and ISD continues to exemplify how local governance can harness sports to build cohesion, celebrate heritage and inspire the next generation.
