As part of efforts to strengthening the capacity building of the caterers and cooks under the school feeding program, the Government of Ghana with the aid from the World Bank organized a capacity building training for the caterers and cooks of Ejura-SekyeDuamase (Ejura), Sekyere Central District (Nsuta) and Mampong Municipal (Mampong) on Wednesday 29th July, 2026 at the forecourt of the Municipal Assembly, Mampong.
The training forms part of the Ghana School Feeding Programme under the Ghana-United Nations Millennium Development goals initiative, which seeks to combat hunger and extreme poverty by strengthening the implementation of the School Feeding Program through improved food preparation, hygiene, nutrition, and service delivery.
The Training was graced by the Municipal Chief Executive of Mampong Municipal Assembly, Hon. Issifu Yakubu accompanied by Heads of Department, the representative from the Ghana School Feeding Program and World Bank.
The Training focused on enhancing participants understanding of food safety standards, proper kitchen management, personal hygiene, nutrition, and best practices in school feeding operations.
The Training provided an opportunity for participants from the Three (3) Districts to exchange experiences, learn from one another, and strengthen collaboration in the implementation of the School Feeding Program.
Speaking during the training, facilitators emphasized that continuous capacity building for
caterers and cooks is essential to ensuring that pupils receive healthy, balanced, and hygienically prepared meals, they noted that improving the skills of service providers directly contributes to better nutrition, increased school enrolment and attendance, and enhanced learning outcomes among children.
The Training also highlighted the importance of adhering to operational guidelines, maintaining
high standards of food hygiene, ensuring accountability in program implementation, and supporting the Government of Ghana’s broader efforts to improve child welfare and educational outcomes.
The Mampong Municipal Assembly expressed its appreciation to the Ghana School Feeding Programme and the World Bank for selecting the Municipality to host the training and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote quality education, child nutrition, and sustainable community development.
The workshop concluded with practical demonstrations, interactive discussions, and a renewed commitment by participants to apply the knowledge acquired in improving the quality of meals served to school children across their respective districts.
