The Mampong Municipal Assembly has held a stakeholder engagement with transport unions in the municipality to deliberate on key issues affecting the transport sector, including compliance, revenue mobilisation, and road safety.

The meeting brought together representatives of various transport unions, Assembly officials, and other stakeholders to discuss challenges within the sector and explore practical solutions to improve operations. Key among the discussions were strategies to enhance revenue collection from transport operators through toll and stickers to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, and promote safer road usage across the municipality.

The Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Yussifu Yakubu, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the local authority and transport unions in achieving an efficient and well-regulated transport system. He noted that improving compliance among operators would not only boost internally generated funds (IGF) but also contribute to orderly transport operations and improved service delivery for both parties.

Transport union leaders also shared their concerns, including operational constraints, road conditions, and the need for continuous engagement with the Assembly. They expressed their willingness to cooperate with authorities to address these challenges and improve standards within the sector.

The engagement further highlighted the need to intensify public education on road safety and enforce regulations to reduce accidents and ensure the safety of passengers and drivers alike.

The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with transport unions and other stakeholders to implement sustainable solutions that will enhance transportation, strengthen revenue mobilisation, and improve the overall development of the municipality.
