The town of Mampong in the Ashanti Region of Ghana hosted a vibrant celebration of World Environmental Day, with the Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene in attendance. The event, themed “Restore Our Earth,” brought together community members, students, and stakeholders to raise awareness about environmental conservation and promote sustainable practices.


The Regional Minister who was in Mampong particularly for the funeral arrangement of the late Mamponghene Daasebre Osei Bonsu II used this opportunity to emphasize on the importance of collective action in protecting the environment and mitigating the impacts of climate change. He highlighted the region’s initiatives to promote eco-friendly practices, such as tree planting, waste management, and sustainable agriculture. He encouraged residents to take ownership of their environment and work towards creating a cleaner, greener Mampong.




The Regional Minister emphasized the devastating impact of galamsey on the environment, water bodies, and public health. He highlighted the region’s efforts to combat illegal mining and encouraged community members to join the fight against this menace. The event served as a reminder of the importance of environmental protection and the need for sustainable practices. The Minister urged Mampong residents to report any illegal mining activities and to support the government’s initiatives to restore degraded lands and promote eco-friendly practices.
“We must work together to protect our environment and natural resources,” the Minister stressed. “Galamsey is a threat to our future, and it’s our collective responsibility to stop it.”

The Regional Minister also used this opportunity to donate streetlights to help improve illumination along major roads, enhancing safety and security for residents, especially at night. The Municipal Assembly expressed gratitude for the Minister’s support, promising to ensure the effective maintenance and utilization of the streetlights.


The celebration included activities such as clean-up exercises, tree planting, and environmental education sessions, underscoring the community’s commitment to environmental protection. The event served as a reminder of the critical role individuals play in preserving the planet for future generations.
